Four Guantanamo prisoners from Yemen arrive in Sultanate for temporary stay

According to Reuters, the Pentagon sent off on Wednesday five Yemenis held at Guantanamo prison to foreign countries – four to Oman and one to Estonia despite Republican calls for a moratorium on such movements.

US officials said all five Yemenis, held for a dozen or more years at the military prison at a US Navy base in Cuba, had been cleared for release nearly five years ago by a multi-agency task force that included intelligence, diplomatic and military officials.

US President Barack Obama has promised to close the internationally condemned detention centre, which was opened in 2002 to house detainees in the US campaign against Al Qaeda.

美國官員說這五名囚犯監禁於古巴的美國海軍基地監獄已長達12年以上，約莫五年前，包括情報、外交與軍隊等多個機構的官員決定將他們釋放。

美國總統巴瑞克歐巴馬承諾關閉備受國際譴責，於2002年啟用以收容蓋達份子的監禁中心。
